Make a Day of It: Winter at Farmers Park

Feeling like winter is dragging on forever? In this weather, we’d all prefer to be homebodies, staying in the comfort of our heated abodes. We’re here to encourage you to be a little adventurous. Once you start to sense the stir-crazy feeling set in, head on down to Farmers Park for a day of fun. No planning required either—we’ve got your entire day all mapped out.

Get your finances in order at Guaranty Bank

Between the holiday aftermath and taxes, winter can be a fickle time for your finances. If your budget is shaking in its boots, the friendly faces at Guaranty Bank are here to help. One of the first things you’ll see upon entering the branch are the words “Community Happens Here” and for good reason. From their conference rooms named after Springfield parks to their uniquely personable service, you can be sure you’re more than just a number. Whether you’re opening your first checking account or getting a loan for your dream home, you can find what you need right here.

Wintry Perk: Dreading getting out of your car to run into the bank? Guaranty Bank’s got you covered. With their video ATM, you can do nearly everything you would otherwise do at a bank without getting out of your car, including deposits, withdrawals, loan payments, and cashing checks. Keep those seat warmers on and stay cozy for your next transaction.

Get some chill threads at 5 Pound Apparel

Rep your Queen City spirit at 5 Pound Apparel with dozens of designs you’ll love. Every purchase at 5 Pound Apparel gives back in some way—in fact, the company’s name comes from the fact that each purchase of their in-house line comes with a donation of 5 pounds of food to Ozarks Food Harvest. In their first five years of business, the company donated 44,000 pounds of food. While you’re browsing, be sure to check out their outside brands of footwear, jewelry, gifts, and apparel, each carefully curated to be both sustainable and charitable. As part of the original design of Farmers Park, 5 Pound Apparel has been passionate about our values from the beginning, creating a partnership we’ve been proud to share since 2014.

Wintry Perk: Stay warm while wearing your SGF pride with their line of crew neck sweaters. Our personal favorites are the classic “Springfield MO, Where Dreams Come True” and their muted teal “5 Pound Apparel” branded sweatshirt.

Spruce up your living space at 5908

Take the drab out of your life during the grayest of seasons. Patti Johnson, the owner of 5908, has more than 20 years of interior design experience and is ready to help you find the perfect piece for your home. Patti was inspired to open the store after going to market to get accessories for her own home and became excited by the possibilities of the new contemporary style furnishings. This led her to open 5908, now one of Springfield’s premier spots for contemporary and custom furniture. Check them out on Facebook for new shipments and great sales!

Wintry Perk: If you need some cozy bedding, 5908 should be your first stop. Choose from dozens of available options, and if your style isn’t in stock, Patti’s team of designers can custom order exactly what you want. Go ahead and hibernate in style.

Expand your palate at Progress and Reverie

Ready to end the night with a hearty meal and toasty drink? Progress and Reverie are the new kids on the block, but they’ve already made a name for themselves. Previously a pop-up restaurant experience, Daniel Ernce, Michael Schmitz, and Cassidy Rollins have worked to bring some of the most unique flavors in the 417 to Farmers Park. The vision of the restaurant and bar is best encapsulated in Progress’s 22-point manifesto, including lines like, “Let your food tell a story. Give your food a voice and vision and see where it leads you.” For them, it leads visitors anywhere from their own backyard to across the world. Once you’ve satisfied your appetite, take the elevator upstairs to Reverie to enjoy the rooftop views while indulging in a delectable custom cocktail. It’s the perfect bookend to your Farmers Park daycation.

Wintry Perk: We suggest trying one of Progress and Reverie’s seasonal menu offerings so you can truly experience the flavors of winter. At Progress, we propose the local trout, served over brown butter puree with arugula and bacon vinaigrette. Cap off the evening with an Endless Winters Dram at Reverie, a sherry-based drink blended with Spanish rojo, byrrh, rye whiskey, and cherry winter bitters.
